A Sacred Promise: Jim Torino’s Unwavering Commitment to Protect Medicare and Social Security
July 12, 2026
Jim Torino vows to block all benefit cuts and privatization schemes, defending the critical programs our seniors have earned over a lifetime.

Social Security and Medicare are more than just government initiatives; they represent a sacred promise between the United States government and its citizens. For generations, workers have contributed a portion of every single paycheck into these programs with a clear, reliable guarantee: after a lifetime of hard work and service to our economy, you will be able to retire with financial security and access to quality healthcare. Today, however, these foundational safety nets are under frequent political attack from those seeking to cut benefits, raise the retirement age, or privatize services. Jim Torino believes these proposals are entirely unacceptable.

As a father of ten and a former healthcare executive, Torino understands how deeply families rely on these programs. Social Security is often the single line of defense preventing seniors from falling into poverty, while Medicare provides essential medical security during retirement. Torino stands firmly against any efforts to weaken, scale back, or dismantle these earned benefits.

"Seniors paid into these programs with every single paycheck they earned over decades of hard work," Torino states clearly. "They did their part, and it is the federal government's obligation to do theirs. I will look at any attempt to cut benefits, raise the retirement age, or hand these programs over to Wall Street as a direct violation of our promise to older Americans."

Torino’s plan to protect Social Security focuses on securing its long-term financial solvency without placing an extra burden on middle-class families or seniors. Currently, high earners stop paying into Social Security once their income hits an artificial cap. Torino advocates for eliminating this cap, ensuring that ultra-wealthy individuals contribute to the program at the exact same percentage rate as middle-class workers. This common-sense change would instantly extend the solvency of the Social Security Trust Fund for decades, protecting benefits for current seniors and future generations.

When it comes to Medicare, Torino is focused on both defending the program from privatization and actively improving its coverage. He strongly opposes schemes to convert Medicare into a voucher system, which would force seniors to shop for private insurance plans on the open market, driving up out-of-pocket costs and reducing reliability.

Instead, Torino supports strengthening traditional Medicare. He advocates for expanding standard coverage to include essential dental, vision, and hearing care—services that are absolutely critical to senior health but are currently missing from basic Medicare parts. He also supports continuing to expand Medicare's power to negotiate prescription drug prices directly with pharmaceutical companies, which lowers costs for the program and saves taxpayers billions of dollars annually.

Torino’s career background gives him a strong understanding of health system economics, allowing him to easily spot backroom efforts to privatize care. He knows that private insurance models often introduce unnecessary administrative costs and profit margins that drain resources away from direct care. He will use his specialized knowledge to protect public programs from corporate exploitation, ensuring that every dollar allocated to Medicare goes directly toward improving senior health outcomes.

For Jim Torino, protecting Medicare and Social Security is a matter of basic dignity and generational fairness. He is fully prepared to stand up to special interests in Washington to ensure that these hard-earned safety nets remain strong, fully funded, and completely secure for today’s seniors and for our children.
