Leading with Heart and Homework: The Michele Dial Story
Local & National News | February 28, 2026
Vice Mayor Michele Dial: A 35-year educator & Lakeland Commissioner bringing "Bruin Best" leadership to District 3. Steady, proven, and ready.

Written By JR Robinson

In the world of education, an administrator is the ultimate bridge-builder. They balance budgets, manage diverse personalities, and ensure that every decision serves a higher purpose: the future of our children. Michele Dial has spent over 35 years in the trenches of the local school systems, and now, she is ready to bring that "Principal’s Perspective" to the Shelby County Commission (District 3).

Representing a district that encompasses both Bartlett and Lakeland, Michele isn't just a resident; she is a proven civic leader currently serving on the front lines of local government as the Vice Mayor and Commissioner of Lakeland. Her decision to run for the County Commission is a natural extension of a life dedicated to service, education, and community advocacy.

The "Boots on the Ground" Leader

Michele’s story is one of consistent, steady leadership. As a veteran educator and current Assistant Principal at Bon Lin Elementary, she lives the challenges that families in District 3 face every day. She understands that strong schools are the engine of a strong economy, and that the safety of our neighborhoods is the foundation upon which everything else is built.

During her tenure as Vice Mayor and Commissioner in Lakeland, Michele has been known for her collaborative spirit and her focus on smart, sustainable growth. She didn't just sit in meetings; she was the Founder of the Community Advisory Board and has served as a liaison for Parks & Recreation, ensuring that the "quality of life" in her community is protected during periods of rapid expansion.

"Leadership isn't about the office you hold; it's about the students you mentor, the families you support, and the community you build." — Vice Mayor Michele Dial

The Vision for District 3: Stability and Success

With current Commissioner Mick Wright being term-limited, District 3 needs a leader who can hit the ground running without a learning curve. Michele Dial offers exactly that. Her platform for the 2026 term is built on the "Three R's" she has championed throughout her 35-year career: Relationships, Responsibility, and Results.

From the Classroom to the Commission

Michele Dial is the candidate who does her homework. She understands the nuances of local government because she lives them every day as an elected official. She understands the needs of families because she has served them for three and a half decades as an educator.

For Michele, this race isn't about political ambition—it’s about the "Bon Lin Bruin Best" standard of excellence she models daily. She is running to ensure that the same care, transparency, and dedication she brings to the Assistant Principal’s office is brought to the Commission chamber for every resident of Bartlett and Lakeland.
